Cobalt oxide (cobaltous oxide), chemical formula CoO, is a metal oxide, black and gray hexagonal crystalline powder, insoluble in water, alcohol, ammonia, easily reduced to cobalt metal by carbon monoxide, high temperature, easy to react with silicon dioxide, aluminum oxide or zinc oxide to generate a variety of pigments.
